Been a member for over 5 years, and like the Gym, great new equipment and facility. Usually clean, but that has slipped a lot lately. Could use a bigger floor exercise area, it is usually taken over by spin classes, and heavy bag users who need a lot of space. Also the front staff only seemed to interested in talking to their butt-buddy muscle boys, and young women with large endowments. Never a greeting or a smile when you come in to sign in. The regular everyday guy/gal seem to be not part of their favourite customers although we are the bulk of customers that are paying their way. The previous owners were big on building a customer base and loyalty. That could change rapidly on the expiration of people's memberships.
Otherwise great location and mid-day quiet times are the best time to go.

I agree on the Crossfit! I ahve been looking myself and it looks as if the only legit one is in Summerland! Would like to see a facility in Penticton dig into that market! :)

Thats a good break down. As a patron of the Racquet club I'm partial to it. The owners are great and you did miss some stuff there. There are classes offered such as spinning and Pilates for a cost, like most of the other places in town. You missed the steam rooms and the fact that the change rooms are probably the cleanest in town. It also has a lounge for post wally ball and squash games for a beer and a snack with a bunch of tv's for watching the games on. A couple of the employee's are licensed trainers as well. Yes it has a slightly older clientele but that lends to a calmer gym where you can go and get your sweat on. The squash ladder is pretty decent if you are into that and there is a healthy group of racquet ball players as well. Towels are a dollar a piece. My biggest con these days are the lazy people who can't seem to put weights back. My one question is the crossfit part of riverside, is it a true crossfit program or is it riversides own personal crossfit. As far as i know the only crossfit around is in summerland and I'm wondering why penticton hasn't got it together yet to establish one?

Good breakdown on facilities in the Penticton area. However, since your article, there have been a few things I've noticed. City Center has moved to a different location, which I still have yet to visit to determine if this is a nice place compared to their old one, yet they now have much better parking compared to before. The Racquet and Fitness Club also offers Walleyball leagues, steam rooms, has a lounge, and has since lowered their prices and bundled memberships to be all inclusive. Places like Lakeside and City Center (if I'm not mistaken) both support physiotherapy, and tend to have people in for rehab. That being said, a knowledgeable physiotherapist on site could answer nearly any question having to do with exercise (that is, of course, if they are not too busy with their client and have time to answer a question!). But again, thank you for the information on the facilities!

Hehe, I can see why you thought that. In reality, I didn't feel uncomfortable, I just found it to be silly. The staff there was very professional and friendly as well. However I mentioned the "bro" culture because it could be a major deal breaker, or at the very least intimidating, to some (especially female members).
